Charley passed away back in 2007, but his art has only become more and more popular. He’s got a very unique style and primarily did illustrations. No doubt you’d recognize a Charley Harper work fairly easily if you saw a few.

Here’s one of his more famous works, called “Red and Fed.”

He’s got a very unique and minimalist style and focused primarily on wildlife. Charley referred to his style as “minimal realism,” in which his goal was to capture the essence of his subjects with the fewest possible visual elements.

While Charley Harper greatly simplified his subjects, he often arranged them into complex scenes and scenarios by combining them with a number of other, minimalist objects.

Posters, Prints, Calendars, Books

His artwork has been published in all kinds of mediums accessible to the general public, including posters, prints, calendars, and books. In fact, famous designer Todd Oldham helped publish one of the more popular Charley Harper books entitled, “Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life”.

In honor of Charley Harper, the mayor of Cincinnati declared December 8, 2006 to be “Charley Harper Day”.

I met someone through an SEO forum a while back who said he was developing an application for monitoring backlinks. He explained the program was designed to track important backlinks with decent Pagerank from link exchanges, DMOZ, or high Pagerank directories. There are a thousand link checker apps out there that are designed to find all the backlinks to your website that exist…things like Majestic SEO is the first one that comes to mind. I believe SEOMoz has something similar.

I ran into a problem though tinkering around with my own link building efforts, and that was: How do you keep track of all those high value links (like paid links, high pr directories, guest blog posts, etc) without spending hours every few weeks checking them all by hand?

I looked around for something to help me monitor backlinks, but inevitably, I found they didn’t work properly and I was back to tracking all my links in an Excel spreadsheet and tediously going through each of those links once a month or so and checking that they’re still online, they haven’t had the nofollow attribute sneaked in there, the pagerank hasn’t dropped, etc. I only have like 10 really important links to one of my sites where I’m testing out affiliate marketing and I was literally spending 2 – 3 hours every month reviewing them manually.

So obviously this new app I found was a godsend, plus it’s free, so I gave it a shot.

The app I found is called AreMyLinksUp? (no spaces ). (check it out here).

Here are my thoughts on the app after using it for a few months.

First of all, how does it monitor backlinks?

The app basically does what I used to do manually. First you load your links into the app and tell it whether the link should be do-follow, what the anchor text should be, and where the link should point to.

After you’ve added your links, the app scans the sites your links are on to check the following items:

1. Does the link actually exist and is it pointing to the right place?
2. Is the anchor text correct? Has it changed?
3. If it’s supposed to be do-followed, is it? Or has someone sneaked in the nofollow attribute?
4. Is the page your link is on restricted by robots.txt? This is a sneaky trick I’ve seen people use to invalidate your link.
5. What is the PageRank of the page your link is on and has it dropped since the link was added?
6. It also has some extra fields so you can jot down who to contact if something goes wrong with the link.

Email notifications

This is where the app really shines and why it saves me so much time. Instead of going through all my backlinks manually, the app will track any changes to the link (PR drops, link gets removed, link gets nofollowed, link gets restricted by robots.txt, etc) and immediately send me an email if something changes.

It’s like having an assistant checking all your backlinks for you and only letting you know if something bad happens.

Saving money

I can directly contribute about $250 in savings to this app. I had several links I had purchased where the PR dropped significantly and others where they were nofollowed (and hence devalued). Those tricksters thought they could get away with it but thanks to AreMyLinksUp? I was notified right away when this happened.

So I contacted the people I originally bought the links from and never heard back from any of them so I just cancelled my PayPal subscriptions for those links.

Had it not been for this app I would have kept paying for those links for at least another month, and perhaps longer because I used to be a bit lazy about checking my links.

Hard drives suffer from the same problems as floppy drives; however, the fix is different. A hard drive cannot be aligned mechanically in the field. And hard drive is a sealed unit that’s assembled in a clean room. Never remove the cover of a hard drive. Dust particles in the normal environment can destroy a hard drive. The heads of a hard drive skim across the disk surface at less than the thickness of a human hair. A small dust particle appears as a mountain to a disk head.

Reformatting the hard disk

As the drive ages the head actuator gets out of alignment data and formatting information. To rely on hard drive a low level format must be performed. Low level formatting rewrites the track and sector information and will compensate for head actuator where. Unfortunately, all program data will be lost, plus a special program like SpinRite or Norton Utilities is used.

Utility programs are available to perform a low-level format, but most hard drive controllers also provide this feature and the controller bios. Before you perform this procedure, back up all data on the hard disk, this procedure will erase everything on the drive.

After low-level formatting, run the DOS program FDISK. FDISK partitions, or divide the hard disk for use with DOS or another operating system. After FDISK is Ron, have level format must be performed. This is accomplished with a DOS format command. After reformatting, all software must be reinstalled. Before reinstalling software, check the disk for bad sectors. Hard drives can fail just when you need them, so always make backup copies of your software and data and recommend this practice to your cost.

Bad sectors and file fragmentation

Bad sectors are another problem that hard drives experience. If a section of the magnetic media becomes unreliable, data stored there becomes corrupted. This can lead to program crash, or data loss. Many commercial programs such as SpinRite, Norton Utilities, and PC Tools have programs that can search a hard drive and find and tag bad sectors. Once tagged, the sectors will not be used again. If bad sectors occur in the boot record area of the disk, the drive may become unbootable, or unable to load the operating system. The drive can still be used to store data but cannot be used to boot the operating system.

Another problem is file fragmentation. The data is added to the disk distorting the available space on the desk. Often, the available space is not in contiguous sectors. As files are written and deleted the available space become scattered around the drive. When a file loads, the drive head must search around the final the data. This causes wear and tear on the drive increases program loading time. Commercial programs such as Norton Utilities, PC Tools, and SpinRite also provide file defragmentation program.

If hard drive becomes unusable, commercial software may be used to recover the data. Software cannot recover the data, commercial recovery and refurbishing services are available. Please contact your local Cincinnati Computer Repair for any additional questions.

Toxicologia is the Spanish word for Toxicology, which is the branch of biology, chemistry, and medicine that covers the study of the effects of chemicals on the body. Especially pertinent are poisonings and how certain chemicals affect human biological functions.

The study of Toxicology was first introduced by Dioscroides, at least as far as we know, who was a roman chemist and worked to classify the toxic effects of plants on the human body.

Toxicology has come a long way since then and many scientists and toxicologists have come and gone, making their marks on the field. The early 1800s was when modern toxicology first came to be and it was brought around by Mathieu Orfila, who published a book on the topic in 1813.

Later on the 19th century, other toxicologists like Jean Stas and Theophrastus Phillipus Auroleus Bombastus von Hohenheim (quite a name!) took the science even further. The latter of the two coined the idea that all things are poison; it is only the dosages that really make the difference.

This relationship between dose and effects has been a long-standing maxim in Toxicology and one of the principal ideas of the field. Under the right dosages, even water is toxic. As simple as this idea seems, early toxicologists didn’t think about substances and their interactions with the human body in this way.
